THE LIVING GOD
Beloved, gather ’round now—let’s talk about the Great I AM, the One who knit the stars into the sky and breathed life into dust. Y’see, if there ain’t a God, well, we’re just hollerin’ at the wind. But oh, friends—He is real. And here’s the glory of it: He lets us know Him!
I. GOD AIN’T HIDIN’
Some folks say, “Preacher, how can we finite critters fathom the Infinite?” Well, let me ask ya: Do you know the essence of the sunrise? No—but you feel its warmth! You don’t gotta dissect a meadow to know it’s beautiful. Same with the Almighty. We ain’t meant to box Him up in our little minds, but He’s shown us enough in creation and conscience to make our knees buckle.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
—Psalm 19:1
II. HE’S MORE THAN A “FORCE”
Now, some smart folks call God the “Absolute” or “Unconditioned.” Big words, sure—but what’s it mean? It means He’s unchanging, eternal, and sovereign. He don’t need nothin’, yet He chose to make you and me. Think on that! Even a sparrow don’t fall without Him noticin’ (Matthew 10:29).
III. YOU ALREADY KNOW HIM
Ain’t ya ever felt that tug in your soul when the moon hangs low, or when a baby laughs? That’s Him whisperin’. Deep down, we all know right from wrong—that’s His law written on our hearts (Romans 2:15). And when trouble comes, who do we cry out to? Not the “Unmoved Mover”—we cry, “Father!”
IV. BUT WE’LL NEVER FULLY KNOW HIM
Brothers and sisters, let’s be humble. God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). Job tried to figure Him out and wound up sayin’, “I’m speechless—I’ll cover my mouth!” (Job 40:4). Yet here’s the wonder: He wants us to seek Him anyway. Like a child trustin’ a parent’s love, even when they don’t understand the rules.
SO WHAT DO WE DO?
- Look Up: See His fingerprints in every sunrise, every heartbeat.
- Look In: That guilt when you sin? That longing for mercy? That’s Him callin’.
- Look to Scripture: He’s revealed Himself in His Word—not every secret, but enough to save your soul and steady your feet.
“Now we see but a dim reflection… then we shall see face to face.”
—1 Corinthians 13:12
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, You’re the Alpha and Omega—too vast for our minds, yet closer than our breath. Help us to worship You in awe, love You in trust, and serve You in joy. Amen.
