Dear friends,
Today, let’s talk about a journey many of us face: moving from spiritual darkness into the marvelous light of God. When we experience regeneration, our eyes are opened to new realities. What was once hidden from us becomes clear, and we begin to see things from a fresh perspective. This transformation is a work of the Holy Spirit, filling our hearts with the knowledge of God’s glory through Jesus Christ. It brings joy, warmth, and a deep love that changes us completely.
However, as we grow in this light, we sometimes forget the difference between the light of faith, which guides us here on earth, and the heavenly light we long for. When we confuse these, we might feel like we’re still in darkness, believing we’re unconverted. This can lead to a kind of spiritual darkness that dims even the light of faith.
This darkness isn’t the same as what those who haven’t found faith experience. It’s more like a spiritual struggle for those who’ve made some progress in their Christian walk. Without the usual guidance of the Holy Spirit, we might find ourselves in a place where everything seems distant and unclear. This can leave us feeling joyless, anxious, and lost.
The Bible tells us that even the faithful, like Abraham and Job, faced such darkness. It’s important to remember that these times of darkness don’t mean we’re without grace. Instead, they’re seasons where we might learn and grow.
Spiritual Darkness/Back To The Light
Causes of Spiritual Darkness
Just like natural vision can be blocked by clouds or illness, spiritual darkness can have various causes:
- Feeling distant from Jesus and lacking the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
- The devil clouding our minds with doubts and false teachings.
- Ignoring the light of faith, thinking it’s not enough.
- Turning away from God’s truth by giving in to our desires.
- Trying too hard to understand God’s mysteries, which can lead to confusion.
Consequences of Spiritual Darkness
When we’re in this darkness, it can bring about:
- Despondency: Just like dark days feel gloomy, spiritual darkness can weigh heavily on our hearts.
- Sinful Thoughts: Doubts and fears can arise, making us feel even more lost.
- Fear: We might feel afraid of God’s wrath or doubt our salvation.
- Confusion: It’s easy to make wrong choices when we can’t see clearly.
- Fruitlessness: Just as plants struggle without sunlight, our spiritual lives can feel barren without God’s light.
- Coldness: Darkness can make us feel spiritually cold and indifferent.
Avoiding Spiritual Darkness
To avoid falling into this darkness:
- Be mindful of what might lead you there.
- Appreciate the light you have, no matter how small.
- Rejoice in knowing God and understanding His Word.
- Follow the light of God’s Word and live by it.
If you find yourself in darkness, don’t lose hope. Many believers experience this, and it doesn’t mean you’re without grace. Remember, God’s light will shine on you again, teaching you valuable lessons through this season.
Finding Your Way Back to Light
- Be Patient: You might not immediately return to the light you once knew, but every small glimmer is a comfort.
- Value Small Light: Even a little understanding of God’s Word can guide you.
- Stay Humble: Stick to the truth of Scripture and don’t seek beyond what it reveals.
- Be Faithful: Use the light you have and walk humbly with it.
- Keep Devotions: Maintain your prayer and Bible study routines, seeking God’s help and light.
Remember, God hears your prayers, and He promises to give wisdom and light to those who ask. One day, you will see His face clearly and be fully satisfied. Amen.
